Students across South East Queensland (SEQ) are encouraged to plan their back-to-school journeys ahead of the new term with new and improved school bus services introduced.
Translink has worked with 11 SEQ bus operators to introduce 33 new school routes, 833 route modifications, 11 route removals and has supplied four new buses.
New bus services have been introduced in new estates and expanded in areas experiencing growth. In addition to improved coverage, the changes help to address reliability, safety, and reduced run times and transfers for many school bus users.
Some changes are a result of new school bell times. Other changes have been made in response to requests from students, schools, and community regarding their services.
School students who travel on Brisbane City Council urban bus services are also encouraged to visit the Translink website to plan their journey, with the introduction of Brisbane Metro M2 services and bus stop changes at King George Square station on January 28.
The current route 66 will be replaced by Brisbane Metro route M2, while several routes will stop at a different bus stop at King George Square station.
Students, parents and guardians are urged to familiarise themselves with any changes to their service by using Translink’s School Service Finder or Journey Planner or visiting local bus operator websites.
Other important tips for students to ensure a smooth transition back to school include:
- buying/checking the validity of travel cards or go cards and considering auto top-up;
- familiarising themselves with local public transport stops, stations, and services;
- claiming School Transport Assistance Scheme (STAS) if applicable; and
- checking out Translink’s safe school travel tips.
